It was a handicap competition between teams of seven players from Ayrshire, Dunbarton and Argyll, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire.
The competition consisted of foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon with a complicated draw so that some competitors from each county play some from every other county.
The winners were Dunbartonshire and Argyll who won 8 1/2 games out of  nine.
Lanarkshire finished second with 5 1/2 pts. Ayrshire had 3 points and Renfrewshire 1.

NATIONAL COACH MAKES SURPRISE DECISION TO BECOME SELF-EMPLOYED

KEVIN CRAGGS TO QUIT SLGA

 POST AT END OF AUGUST

Kevin Craggs, the Scottish Ladies Golf Association's national coach for the past eight years, is to leave the post at the end of August, according to the Bunkered magazine website.
Craggs has decided to leave his position and become self-employed as a golf coach.
"I just feel that, because of the lack of depth in the ladies' game in Scotland just now, this is the perfect time for me to explore different avenues and focus on the 'KC' brand," said Craggs.
"Unfortunately, ladies' and girls' golf is lacking numbers at the moment and, with the trend amongst most of our top players to move to the USA, there is a lack of elite golfers based here in Scotland to work with.
"I'd like to thank the SLGA for giving me this wonderful opportunity and I would like to emphasise that this decision has been totally amicable. I will be glad to assist the organisation in the future in any way that I can but, right now, it is time for me to explore other opportunities."
One of Craggs' pupils, Kylie Walker, recently scored her first win on the ELadies European Tour.

BRITS STRUGGLE ON FOGGY AND DAMP DAY IN SWITZERLAND

UNINSPIRED START BY TEAM GBR AT

WORLD UNIV CHAMPIONSHIPS

REPORT FROM Dr ROB MACPHERSON
Both the British men's and women's teams struggled in the foggy and damp conditions for the opening of the 15th World University Golf Championships at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland.
Winners of two silver medals at the last championships in the Czech Republic, the young men's team started well, but tailed off in the latter stages.
The team's round of the day was a par 72 by Craig Chalmers (Strathclyde) to be four shots back from first-round leaders Gavin Green (Malaysia) and Daniel Berna (Spain), both round in 68
Craig put his solid scoring down to straight driving and making few
mental errors: "It was tough out there", he said, "some of the pin
placements out there were as difficult as they could make them.

"However, I played some good golf and look forward to shooting
lower as the competition progresses".
Fellow GBR players Andrew Wilson (Northumbria), with a 74, and
Laurie Potter (Exeter), a 75,  added scores which meant the British

team finished Day 1 in sixth place with a total of five over par - 11
shots behind leaders Spain,

The more experienced GBR women's team also did not enjoy their
day on the course that is host to the Omega European Masters every
year. Hannah McCook (Stirling) battled a long-term wrist injury to
post a 77 (+5); and Ami Storey (Northumbria) shot 79 (+7) to leave
the team towards the back of the field. The competition continues
until Friday.

WITH PAR 74s IN FIRST Q ROUND

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Curtis Cup players Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) and Gemma Dryburgh (Beaconsfield) were the best of the Scots with par-matching 74s to be joint 15th at the end of the first-qualifying round at the British women's open amateur championship at Royal St George's Golf Club, Kent.
Over the 6,425yd course, a links that has staged many an Open championship, the Lochwinnoch-based Stirling University P.E. student Briggs had halves of 36-38, birdieing the seventh, 15th and 18th. She had a spell in the doldrums in the middle of the round when she bogeyed the 10th, 11th and 12th.
Aberdeen-born Beaconsfield GC member Gemma Dryburgh birdied the last to salvage a 74 from a card that included a double bogey 6 at the 12th in halves of 36-38. She birdfied the first, seventh, 13th and 18th.
Last year's Scottish champion Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) is joint 45th on 76 (36-40). She had  birdies at the fourth and 10th but a run of bogeys in the second half - 11th, 12th, 14th and 18th.
New Scottish champion Gabrielle MacDonald (Craigielaw) had a 76 (37-39) with a double bogey 6 at the 10th.
Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies), beaten finalist at Prestwick, also had a 76 which included a triple bogey 8 at the long 15th. But she did birdie the 11th and 18th for 38 home.
All those on the 76 mark at T45 overnight.
Last off the tee at around 3.15pm, Germany-based Scot Rachael Taylor, a student at North Carolina State University, had a 77.
The Airdrie-born player was two under par after 10, having birdied the seventh and 10th but she followed an outward 36 with an inward 41, running up a double bogey 7 at the long 15th.
Carnoustie Ladies' Ailsa Summers had a triple bogey 8 at the long 15th and bogeyed the 16th and 17th in an inward half of 41 for a 78, which included birdies at the sixth, 14th and 18th.
Ailsa and the rest with 78s are tied 75th - which is outside the qualifying zone.
Former Scottish girls champion Lauren Whyte (St Regulus) had a 78 which included five bogeys in a row from the 10th to the 14th.

Clara Young (North Berwick) had a 79 (39-40) with a double bogey 5 at the short third and a double bogey7 at the long sixth.
Jess Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) had a disappointing 81 (38-43. Last year's Scottish Under-21 girls champion and University of Missouri student  had a double bogey 7 at the long 13th.

Leading the field with a five-under-par 69 is Dewi Weber from the Netherlands. In bogey-free halves of 33-and 36, Dewi (pronounced Devvee) birdied the long first, second, long fourth, ninth and long 18th.
Last year's beaten finalist from Spain, Luna Sobron was one of a number on 70.  They included GB and I Junior Vagliano Trophy player Sophie Lamb (Clitheroe) who had halves of 36-34, birdieing the seond, seventh, 14th, 17th and 18th.
Young Sophie covered the last 10 holes in three under par.
Two-time Curtis Cup player Bronte Law (Bamhall) had a 72, the same score at Meghan MacLaren (Wellingborough) who narrowly failed to gain a place in the GB and I team for St Louis, Missouri.
Defending champion and Curtis Cup player Georgia Hall (Parkstone) had a 78 with a double bogey 7 at the long 13th in an inward 42.
Georgia, reported to be on the verge of turning professional, will need to step up a gear in the second qualifying round. At the moment she is
well outside the leading 64 players who will go forward to the match-play stages after the second qualifying round on Wednesday.

PAOLOZZI HAS ROUNDS OF 75 AND 71

  KAREN MAKES THE CUT AMONG

THE MEN AT US PGA PRO CH/SHIP

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (AP) - Karen Paolozzi has become the second female player to make the cut in the US PGA Professional National Championship, as University of Toledo coach Jamie Broce took the second-round lead in windy conditions Monday.
Playing from tees in front of the men, Paolozzi followed her opening 75 at Grande Dunes with a 71 at The Dunes - the site of the final two rounds - to move into a tie for 31st at 2 over.
Suzy Whaley was the first woman to make the cut in 2005 at Kiawah Island.
A former Indiana University player, the 31-year-old Paolozzi is a PGA assistant professional at Druid Hills in Atlanta.
“This is exactly what my goal was,” Paolozzi said. “I wanted to make the cut. I wanted to come here and play well. I was a little disappointed after yesterday, but I knew if I put in a solid round today, I had a chance.”
The 37-year-old Broce had an even-par 72 at Grande Dunes to take a one-stroke lead over Ryan Helminen. Broce had a 4-under 140 total.

The top 20 Wednesday will get spots in the PGA Championship in August at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.
Paolozzi isn’t eligible to earn a spot in the PGA Championship because she didn’t play from the men’s tees last fall when she qualified in the Northern Ohio PGA Section Championship.

THIRD IN US WOMEN'S OPEN ON PRO DEBUT AFTER STELLAR AMATEUR CAREER

Watch out Rory, Stephanie is new kid on the

block from Northern Ireland roots

Stephanie Meadow starred at the US Open in pro debut

Move over Rory McIlroy and G-Mac, there is a new professional in town. Stephanie Meadow is the bright new face of Northern Ireland golf.

From Portrush to professional to Pinehurst in one swift swoop - is our rising star.Stephanie (22), originally from Jordanstown, turned professional just last week and already she has claimed third place in the notoriously difficult US Open golf tournament in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
She began playing at the age of seven at Ballyclare Golf Club.
The determined young golfer would often get her dad Robert to drive her there in the morning before school at 6.30am.
From there she became a member of the Royal Portrush Golf Club. At the age of 14, the former Belfast High School student moved with her parents, who are now both retired, to America where she attended Hank Hainey Junior International Golf Academy on Hilton Head Island.
She earned a four-year scholarship at the University of Alabama where she smashed multiple records and won nine tournaments. Proving an all-rounder, she showed excellence in the classroom as well, graduating with the equivalent of a first class honours in her accountancy degree.
At the weekend, she finished three shots behind US Open winner Michelle Wie, with prize money of more than $270,000 (£159,000).
Stephanie told the Belfast Telegraph: "I don't think it's really sunk in yet.
"It's been kind of hectic figuring what I'm going to play in next but definitely it was a great experience and I couldn't have asked for a better start to my professional career.
"The Irish Ladies Golf Union have always supported me so I wouldn't be even close to where I am without all the support from back home, and also my coaching team over here as well."
She added: "My whole life I've worked for this.
"I was asked do I feel pressure, but honestly, I've always dreamed of turning pro and it was just so nice to be able to go out there and play for money and be on the professional scene and play for a crowd.
"It wasn't really pressure, it was more just like, 'Ok, I can finally do this.'"
Her dad said he had to "pinch" himself to realise what's happened.
"It's really incredible what she has done," he said. "I felt when she was very young she had a great deal of possibility for the future ahead of her and she has done it in her first tournament as a professional, it is just an immense achievement against the top ladies in the world.
"We are just so proud of her."
The 22-year-old's success was the talk of her former golf clubs yesterday.
Thomas McIntyre (27), assistant professional at Ballyclare Golf Club, played along with Stephanie when she was a junior member.
He said: "She had a good idea what she wanted to do from a young age.
"Every time she was playing different tournaments it didn't seem to faze her."
PGA assistant golf professional at Royal Portrush Golf Club, Charlene Reid (26), said it was "incredible", adding: "For her first professional tournament, to finish in the top three is unbelievable.
"She was very motivated and determined – so it wasn't a surprise."
