KEY PERFORMANCE BY NORTH STUDENT AT WEXFORD, USA

Kyle Godsman in action at Wexford Golf Club.

KYLE GODSMAN FROM HOPEMAN

FINISHES 3rd, HELPS USC AIKEN WIN

NEWS RELEASE
It was University of South Carolina-Aiken's consistency in the face of drastic changes in weather conditions on Monday that allowed the Pacers to bolt to a six-stroke lead over Charleston Southern after the first round of the ninth annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate golf tournament at Wexford Golf Club.
That same consistency on Tuesday carried USC Aiken to a one-shot victory over late-charging Presbyterian on a gorgeous afternoon on Hilton Head Island.
The Pacers, led by third-place finisher Kyle Godsman, a senior-year student from Hopeman, Morayshire in Scotland, followed up Monday's rounds of 297 and 296 with a 295.
That was just enough to hold off the Blue Hose, who shot a tournament-best even-par 288.
"Anytime you can win, that's great," USC Aiken coach Michael Carlisle said.
"Especially on this golf course. This is a great golf course. There's a lot of good teams here, too. It gives us a lot of confidence. And you can always use more confidence in this game."
The victory was the second of the season for USC Aiken. The Pacers also won the Firestone Invitational in October at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
Godsman had rounds of 74, 72 and 71 for a 54-hole total of one-over-par 217 to finish third individually, five shots behind the winner, and all five USCA golfers finished 22nd or better in the 90-player field.
"We were pretty consistent. It was a real team event," Carlisle said. "Everybody contributed something. If a team goes out there and three of the guys feel like they've got to carry all of the weight, it's hard on them. It's a lot of pressure on them.
"But everybody contributed, everybody shot a score that counted. That's real important in team golf."
First-round leader Davis Parker's 2-under-par 70 led PC's final-round charge, but his two-day total of 71-72-70--213 was only good for second individually, as well.
That's because Virginia Commonwealth University's Adam Ball shot a course-record 66 on Tuesday to seize the individual medalist honours. The sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, who was playing the course for the first time, broke the mark of the 2013 individual champion, Troy Valentine of South Florida, by two strokes.
"Everything (was working)," Ball said. "I hit the ball really well and I made a few putts early to start everything off and I never looked back. I was confident. I hit the ball really well (Monday). I made 10 birdies. ... I just made too many mistakes. But today, I kept the mistakes to a minimum."
Ball, who made six birdies and no bogeys Tuesday, enjoyed the Wexford layout. And the weather.
"This is my kind of golf course -- short and tight and tough greens," Ball said.
"It suited my eye really well and it showed. I love it down here. It's nice to get out of the snow for a little while."
Notes: USC Aiken previously won the tournament in 2006 and 2009. ... USC Aiken's Brandon Robinson-Thompson is a a junior from Totland Bay, England. He finished T9 on 223 (71-75-77) VCU's Steffen Harm, a sophomore from Gerlingen, Germany, had a hole-in-one on the 180-yard third hole.

Dulcie had rounds of 73, 69 and 70 for a total of four-under-par 212 - four shots behind the title play-off participants, Tiffany Chan (Daytona State) (71-66-71) and Camila Serrano (Florida International) (67-66-75), who had tied on eight-under 208.
Serrano, a freshman from Bogota, Colombia, won the sudden-death play-off.
Sverdloff overtook two other English players on the final day when she had birdies at the sixth, eighth, 10th, 14th and 16th in halves of 35. On the downside, Dulcie had a double bogey 6 at the 13th.

NEWS FROM UNITED STATES COLLEGE TOURNAMENTS

Stephanie Meadow ... in final year at Alabama University

STEPHANIE MEADOW WINS FOR NINTH

TIME ON US COLLEGE CIRCUIT

Former British champion Stephanie Meadow, a student at Alabama University, hit peak form with a second, four-under-par 68 in a row - covering a half in only 31 shots - to finish joint individual winner of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic college tournament at Rio Mar Country Club, San Juan.
The 22-year-old from Jordanstown, Northern Ireland has spent most of the last decade in America.
A final-year student at Alabama, the Curtis Cup player  shot rounds of 75, 68 and 68 for a total of five-under-par 211 to tie with overnight leader Aurora Kim (Purdue) who had scores of 71, 68 and 72. There was no play-off.
Meadow had 13 birdies in all and has now won nine times on the US college circuit, three times more than any other player in Alabama University women's golf history.
After a slow start - by her standards - to the 54 hole tournament, she covered the last two rounds in eight under par and the final 51 holes of the competition in nine under.
She played the second nine first in her final round and covered the half in a bogey-free 31 shots with five birdies.
Carnoustie's Jess Meek (Missouri University), who had a second-round 70 after an opening 79, slipped back again with a closing 78 for a share of 34th place on 227.
Meek started at the 13th and bogeyed the 14th, 16th, 18th and first holes before she had her only birdie, at the long fourth.
Her woes returned with a bogey at the fifth and a double bogey 7 at the long eighth.
Scots-born Rachael Taylor (North Carolina State) never got into the mix with rounds of 81, 79 and 78 for 238 and a share of 68th place in a field of 81 players. Rachael had two double bogeys and three birdies in a span of eight holes in her closing round.
Arkansas University, with three players in the leading six finishers, won the team title by a big margin. They totalled 867 to head a field of 15 teams from GRU Augusta (881), Northwestern (886), Auburn (891), Georgia (892) and three teams on 893 - Alabama, Purdue and NC State.
