AMERICAN COLLEGE FIRES GOLF COACH FOR PROFANITY-LACED RANT TO HIS TEAM

FROM THE GOLF WEEK WEBSITE

Matt Mahanic, Huntingdon College men’s golf coach, was dismissed from his coaching duties today after a profanity-laced rant he delivered to his team was circulated around the internet.
A recording of Mahanic addressing his golf team after it finished 11th of 12 teams at the Gordin Classic went viral on Deadspin Friday morning local time.. According to the accompanying article, the recording was made by one of Mahanic's players in the team bus.
The authorities at Huntingdon College, Montgomery in Alabama  announced Mahanic’s dismissal in a statement on its website this afternoon.
“As a member of Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, we adhere to the principles expressed in the NCAA Bylaws,” said Huntingdown College President J. Cameron West.
“To quote the Bylaws, ‘Individuals employed by or associated with a member institution to administer, conduct, or coach intercollegiate athletics shall act with ... sportsmanship at all times so that intercollegiate athletics as a whole, their institutions and they, as individuals, represent the honour and dignity of fair play and the generally recognized high standards associated with wholesome competitive sports.’”
Huntingdon is a Methodist school in Montgomery, Alabama, that competes at the Division III level.
Sam Strachan from Inverallochy in the North-east of Scotland is a student at Huntingdon.
He was a successful member of the college golf team in 2011-2012 but has a wrist problem which sees him taking a complete rest from golf during the 2012-2013 college season.

KATY NEEDS EXTRA SPECIAL LAST ROUND IN SPAIN TOMORROW

KATY McNICOLL ... needs to finish at least third in LETAS Order of Merit. She is currently fourth.

Katy McNicoll's hopes of finishing in the top three of the Ladies European Tour developmental circuit's Order of Merit - and thereby circumventing the LET Q School and going straight on to the Tour next year, are fading.
With one round to play in the final LETAS event of the year, the Banesto Tour Valencia in Spain, the Carnoustie player, who is fourth on the Order of Merit, is joint 17th on 147 after rounds of 74-73.
The third-placed order of merit player she needs to catch, Norway's Cecilie Lundgreen, is joint ninth on 145 (72-73).
McNicoll will need an extra special final round over the par 72 Escorpion Golf Club course at Valencia - and even then it might not be enough.
Pamela Feggans from Patna, Ayrshire survived the cut with nothing to spare on 148 after a pair of 74s.
But the third Scot in the field, Glasgow's Gemma Webster, missed out with a pair of 79s for 158.
Curtis Cup star Holly Clyburn from Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, playing her second event since turning pro, leads the field by one shot with scores of 67 and 71 for six-under 138.
