JACK'S THE LAD AT FALDO SERIES FINAL

NEWS RELEASE FROM FALDO SERIES
Jack Singh-Brar of England posted a final round 72 to win the sixteenth Faldo Series Grand Final by two shots at Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland. It was a double success for England as Rochelle Morris won the girls overall title.
“I feel very happy about the result; especially knowing how Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng’s careers took off following their success in the Faldo Series,” said an elated Singh-Brar. The win has changed how I feel about myself, my life and my career as a golfer. Sir Nick Faldo is a great guy – obviously I knew of him and his majors already but The Faldo Series experience has made me appreciate his dedication to helping young golfers achieve their best.”
“Jack is a worthy champion having beaten our largest ever field,” commented Sir Nick Faldo.  “It is the support of our partners, including The R and A, ISPS, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, that allowed us to bring this level of opportunity to 84 competitors from 19 different nations this week and to more than 7,000 young people in 28 countries worldwide each year.”
15-year-old Singh-Brar (Brockenhurst) carded one birdie and one bogey in a composed level par round of 72 to finish on six over and two ahead of Rochelle Morris and Scotland’s Ewan Scott (St Andrews) who won the Boys’ Under-18 title.  Overnight leader Assaf Cohen, 18, who started one ahead of the field and four ahead of Singh-Brar, struggled to a 79 and finished in a tie for fourth.
17-year-old Morris (Huddersfield) was crowned Faldo Series Girls’ Champion following a final round of 77 in testing conditions.  Sophie Keech (Lyme Regis), 16, finished six shots behind but won the Girls’ Under-16 title, having come fourth in 2011.  England’s Robert Busher (Salisbury and South Wilts) won the Boys’ Under-21 title despite a stuttering finish under intense pressure.
Faldo Series Champions Singh-Brar and Morris will be offered a start in a professional Tour event.  They will also be invited by Faldo to the seventh Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills Golf Club in China next March, as will Busher, Scott and Keech.
A record field for a Faldo Series Europe Grand Final was in Northern Ireland for the tournament’s sixteenth edition.  84 golfers from 19 countries joined the six-time Major winner at Lough Erne Resort for the 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking event.

HELEN JONES SHARES IRISH LEAD GOING INTO FINAL ROUND

NEWS RELEASE FROM IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Defending Irish Open Champion Minna Kaarnalahti and current Irish Close Champion Helen Jones (Royal Portrush) lead the field going into the final round of the 54 hole Irish Senior Women’s Open Strokeplay at Royal Belfast, Thursday 13 September.
On a bright but blustery day, Jones and Kaarnalahti leap frogged overnight leader Gertie McMullen (The Island) after she had posted the only score in the seventies to lead the field on Wednesday evening.
Next best is local favourite Marilyn Henderson after she carded a best-of-the-day 76 in the most trying of conditions and Seniors International Sheena McElroy (Grange) who also joined her in joint second after a steady 81.
The field once again struggled on the slick greens as gale force winds buffeted their best efforts. Ireland A won the Nations Cup by 13 strokes from Canada A and Ireland B ahead of Scotland and the USA.

The top 40 now play the final round of 18 holes on Friday with the leaders playing at the end of the field at 11am.

GEMMA DRYSCORES FIRST US WIN

 By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Colin@scottishgolfview.com
Aberdeen-born Gemma Dryburgh has scored her first win as a Tulane University, New Orleans student. The Scotland girl international, pictured, starting her second year at Tulane, had rounds of 69, 70 and 69 for an eight-under-par total of 208 to finish two shots clear of a field of 62 players in the Old Waverly Intercollegiate at Spartanburg Country Club, South Carolina. Her 54-hole aggregate is a Tulane University record.
Tulane finished in second place behind Kentucky - beaten by only two shots - in the team event. Ironically, if Tulane's Finnish freshman (who hadn't qualified but was playing as an individual), been in the team they would have won easily.
Gemma not only rewrote the Tulane 54 hole scoring record she beat two of the 2012 USA Curtis Cup team, by 9 shots in one case and 11 shots in another.
As her dad, Aberdeen oil executive John Dryburgh says: "An excellent performance by Gemma and a perfect start to her college season."

ELIZABETH HAYCOK WINS TOWSON INVITATIONAL

Elizabeth Haycock (Old Dominion University)  from Birmingham was another British winner in the opening events of the 2012-2013 US college golf season.
Junior (third) year student Elizabeth won the Towson Invitationl at Towson Golf and Golf Club, Phoenix, Maryland with a pair of 75s for 150, a total matched by Harin Lee (St John's) with rounds of 77 and 73.
Haycock won the tie-breaker which was not specified in the ODU website report.
Kimberley Bradbury from Derbyshire finished joint eighth in a field of 154 with scores of 78-76 for 154. Old Dominion finished runners-up to winners St John's in a team event contested by 17 squads.

STEPHANIE OUTSIDE TOP 20 AT CHARLESTON

British champion Stephanie Meadow finished T22 in the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club, Charleston in South Carolina.
The Northern Ireland player, a student at Alabama University, shot 72-73-72 for one-over-par 217 in a low-scoring tournament won by Spain's Camilla Hedberg (Florida) with rounds of 69-66-68 for 13-under 203.
US Curtis Cup player Lindy Duncan (Duke) finished second on 207 with rounds of 69, 70 and 68.
Former England girls cap Heidi Baek, a student at Maryland University, finished T113 on 237 with scores of 78, 80 and 79.
Florida (852) won the team title ahead of Duke (858) nd Southern Caifornia (863) in a field of 24 squads.

EMMA CLEGG DOWN THE FIELD IN NEBRASKA

Lancashire's Emma Clegg, a student at Missouri State University, finished 14 shots behind the winner, Alexandra Rossi (SMU) in the Chip-N Club Invitational at the Country Club of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Emma shot 76-78-79 for 233
Rossi had rounds of 70-81-68 to finish two ahead of US Curtis Cup player Amy Anderson (North Dakota State) (74-73-74)

SAMMY VASS TEAM-MATE WINS AT SPARTANBURG

Tain's Sammy Vass (Gardner-Webb University) finished T27 in a field of 73 at the Terrier Intercollegiate at Spartanburg Country Club, South Carolina.
Sammy scored 77-79 for 156, 13 shots behind the winner and team-mate, Mary K Donovan (68-75 for 143)).
Gardner-Webb finished runners-up to UNC-Pembroke in the team event contested by 13 squads.
