JANE TURNER IS TOP SCOT IN BELFAST AS BOYD IS SURPRISE WINNER

AND THE WINNER IS ... Sarah-Jane Boyd, from the Truro club, Cornwall

Jane Turner left her best to the last, finishing with a 73 for a total of 301 and a share of eighth place in the British women's open amateur stroke-play golf championship on a rain-delayed last day at Shandon Park GC, Belfast.
The Craigielaw player finished seven shots behind the surprise winner, Cornwall's Sarah-Jane Boyd. It could have been a different story for the top Scot had she avoided a triple bogey and three double bogeys spread over rounds one and three.
In her final round, Jane avoided any such disasters and birdied the 12th and long 16th in an inward journey of one-under 34, her best of the week.Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) finished 14th on 307, just ahead of Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm).
Curtis Cup player and winner of the Helen Holm Scottish stroke-play championship at Troon in April, Amy Boulden looked a certain winner when she took up the running over the third round from the long-time leader, Sarah-Jane Boyd, the four times Cornwall champion from Truro.
Boulden was two shots clear with five to play ... and then did an "Adam Scott."
She ran up a triple bogey 7 at the 14th, double-bogeyed the 16th and dropped yet another shot to par at the last for a round of ix-over 78 and a total of 296

Club pro's daughter Amy required 26 shots to cover the last five holes. Winner Boyd covered the same stretch in 22 holes.
Sarah-Jane Boyd finished with a 75 for a two-shot win on 294 - her biggest ever win, putting her four Cornwall titles and this year's Southwest women's title in the shade.
"I always believed I had the potential to win a big one, so I have proved myself right," said Sarah-Jane whose victory gains her a place in the starting field for next year's Ricoh Women's British Open over the Old Course, St Andrews.
She won't get the place if she turns pro before that.
"That's made up my mind. I think Ill say another two years as an amateur," said Sarah-Jane, 20 who also won the trophy for the Best Under-23 performance (Angela Uzielli Trophy) and the trophy for the best single round of the championship - her first-round three under par 69
Amy Boulden was tearful at her sudden collapse over the closing holes.

"It was the 14th that did it. I overshot the green into the rough stuff, found an unplayable lie, took a penalty drop and then mishit the next one."
That was the beginnning of the end for the likeable Amy. She  took five shots to get on the putting surface and two-putted for a 7 at this par-4 hole

English champion Kelly Tidy, pictured right, one of the GB and  Curtis Cup heroines - as was Amy Boulden - had the best last 36 hole aggregate of anyone with a pair of 71s to finish third on 297.
"If I hadn't had a few three-putts over the early rounds, I might have won the championship! Amazing but at least I've got my confidence back. It was pretty low over a bad patch of form Ive had recently, " said the 2010 British women's open amateur champion
England (Emily Taylor and Bronte Law) won the international team event.for the Taunton Trophy but neither was there to collect it.
A 45min suspension of play when heavy rain flooded some of the greens threw everyone's schedules out of sync and Taylor, Law and many others had to leave sharpish to catch planes and ferries.
