KATY McNICOLL TIES FOR SIXTH IN KRISTIANSAND LADIES OPEN IN SWEDEN

Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll finished joint sixth in the Kristianstad Ahus Ladies Open at Kristianstad Golf Club, Sweden today - five strokes behind the winner, Norway's Cecile Lundgreen who shot 74-71-77 for six-over-par 222.
Katy scores 72-76-79 with two double bogeys and a triple bogey on her final circuit which was played in very windy conditions.
The Scot had a double bogey 6 at the ninth to turn in 38. Then up came a triple bogey 7 at the par-4 15th followed by a double bogey 6 at the 16th.
The weather was so testing that even the winner had a double bogey and two bogeys over the last four holes for a 77.
France's Melodie Bourdy who had been the overnight leader was blown away to a final round of 83 and finished alongside McNicoll in joint sixth place.
The best last-round score by any competitor was three-over 75.
Curtis Cup amateur Pamela Pretswell shot 72-80-78 for 230 and finished T15. Pamela had three double bogeys over rounds two and three - two of them in the second round and one today at the sixth.

CHRISTEL ON COURSE FOR REPEAT WIN IN TURKISH LADIES OPEN

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR
REPORT BY BETHAN CUTLER,
 LET Media Manager
Christel Boeljon opened up a two- stroke lead after the third round of the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open, leaving herself ideally placed to retain the title she won 12 months ago at the same golf course.
On another beautiful day at National Golf Club in Belek, Antalya, the 24-year-old from the Netherlands, pictured today by Tristan Jones (LET),  who began the day tied for the lead with Ursula Wikstrom, carded a four under 69 for a seven under par total of 212 and a healthy advantage over her nearest challengers Minea Blomqvist-Kakko and Ursula Wikstrom of Finland.
A birdie at the first was followed by a stunning eagle at the par-five fourth, where she struck a three-wood to 10 feet and made the putt. A bogey at the sixth was countered by another birdie at the ninth, resulting in an outward half of three under 33.
A run of three straight birdies from the 11th preceded a double bogey at the 14th, but a great save on 17 after she twice hit the trees secured an inward half of one under 36.
“Today I played very solid. It was a shame about the 14th hole but I think overall four under on this golf course is a good score,” said Boeljon.
“On 17, I hit a bad shot off the tee. It was in the trees off the right and then didn’t hit a very good shot out of the trees, so I was still in the trees and then I hit a very good gap wedge which ended a couple of inches from the hole. That was a good shot and saved my par so that was an important hole for me.”
Buoyed by memories of last year’s victory, Boeljon will be tough to catch, but she added: “I don’t think with any score you could be comfortable going into the last round. There’s a lot of golf left and it’s a tough course.”
Blomqvist-Kakko, who made four birdies and one bogey in a 70, is one of the closest challengers at five under but is hoping to swing more freely as she goes in pursuit of her third Ladies European Tour victory.
She said: “I told my caddie, coach, after 18, that we have to figure something out because it feels a little tight swinging and my swing gets a little bit high so it felt like that today. Hopefully tomorrow it will loosen up a little bit. I think I have a very good chance tomorrow.”
Blomqvist-Kakko claimed her most recent LET trophy at the Finnair Masters in her native Finland in 2008, when she and fellow Finn Wikstrom battled for the title.
Now the pair are locked at five under, could the roles be reversed on Sunday, resulting in Wikstrom’s first victory in eight years as a professional?
She certainly hopes so and said: “Things feel good now and I’ve been able to perform okay so I’m pretty confident I’ll have a chance. That’s fun. That’s why we play, I suppose. You want to be up there with a chance of winning the tournament.”
Spanish rookie Carlota Ciganda will also be in the hunt starting the day only three shots off the lead on four under par.
The 21-year-old from Pamplona posted a course record seven under par 66 in the third round to end the day in fourth place.
She mixed nine birdies with two bogeys and commented: “It was one of those days when everything went right. I hit 16 greens and hit close to the pins and making good putts and the back nine was better. I was playing great and I’m happy with the round.
“I had 26 putts and my second shots were very good. I was hitting close and today everything has been good. I hit the fairways and this course is very narrow.”
This is Ciganda’s first visit to Turkey and she continued: “The course is in great shape; the hotel is beautiful, the food all the time at the hotel and golf course, the people and everyone who organised it, you can’t ask for more and I’m very happy to be here.”
Denmark’s Line Vedel, Sweden’s Carin Koch and Italian Diana Luna share fifth place on two under par.

LINDA CAINE BEATS JANE TURNER AT 21st IN MIDLOTHIAN FINAL THRILLER AT BROOMIEKNOWE

Jane Turner (left) and Linda Caine, before today's Midlothian county championship final at Broomieknowe.

Dunbar's Linda Caine, a Scotland girl international in the 1980s, won the Midlothian women's county title for the second time in three years at Broomieknowe Golf Club today.
She beat Jane Turner (Craigielaw), a current Scotland women's cap, at the 21st hole of a gripping final.
Linda got off to a great start, winning the first, third and fourth to go three up. Jane chipped away at her opponent's lead and eventually squared the match with a birdie at the 12th.
The next five holes were halved and Caine looked favourite to win at the 18th where Turner hit her drive slightly left and looked to be blocked out of playing directly for the green. But she played a great shot on to the green. Caine missed the green with her second and chipped and putted for a 5.
That left Turner requiring only to get down in two putts for a 4 to win the title, but she three-putted to let Caine off the hook.
The 19th was halved in 4.  On the 20th Linda hit her drive up the middle and Jane’s ball landed at the root of a tree.  She played a miraculous left handed shot just short of the green, chipped on and then sank a long putt to match Linda’s regulation par.
At the 21st hole both were on the green in regulation but once again, Jane’s putter let her down to hand the title to Linda – her second in three yearsThey both played pretty much par golf. Jane struck the ball well, but her putter wasn’t quite working for her today.
Linda, despite being 30-40 yards shorter off the tee,  played really steady golf, and chipped and putted well.
Today's results:

GERMANY CALLING! Rachael Taylor shoots best-ever round of 66 (-9)

E-mail from Rachael Taylor
Based in Germany

Just wanted to let you know that I am playing with my team Golf Club Am Reichswald in the Bavarian Ladies Team Championships this week. The top eight Bavarian teams compete for the title.
The teams play a stroke-play round the first day and the top four teams compete for the title. I had a fantastic first round yesterday (Thursday) and finished with a nine under par (and personal best) leading round of 66!
It feels great to have achieved that score. My drives were straight and I just kept knocking the ball in for birdies!
It went past so quickly it hasn't quite sunk in yet.
The matchplay stages start today and my team and I will come up against Münchener Golf−Club e.V, the defending champions. They beat us in a play-off last year so we are looking forward to a good match.
You can see the scores on http://www.bayerischer-golfverband.de/ There will be live scoring again today.
I will be in Scotland for the St Rule at the end of the month.

Rachael
Regards
