Kelly Tidy selected for Junior Ryder Cup match at Gleneagles

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
England’s Kelly Tidy has been selected for the European Junior Ryder Cup team which will take on the USA youngsters at Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire on September 27-28.
Kelly, the British ladies’ champion, will be making her third appearance in a junior European team.
The 18-year-old England international, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency,  from Royal Birkdale played in the 2008 Junior Ryder Cup match and last year was a member of the European side in the Junior Solheim Cup, when she was the top scorer with a 100 per cent record of three wins from three matches.
Kelly’s selection, together with that of the rest of the team, was announced at the end of the European Young Masters in Hungary.
The European team comprises six under-16 players and six under-18s (three boys and three girls in each category) and will be led by captain Gary Stangl and his vice-captain Fiona Norris.
The American team will be made up of six under-18 boys and six under-18 girls, and will be led by M. G. Orender.
On the first day, September 27, there will be foursomes followed by a mixed four-ball, and day two, September 28, will feature the singles matches.
Once the contest is over, the two teams will travel to The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales to play a ‘Friendship Match’ on The Twenty Ten Course ahead of The 2010 Ryder Cup and meet the players from Colin Montgomerie’s European team and Corey Pavin’s American team.

Lucy, Nicki, Tara win Nations Cup in

Grand Prix des Landes in SW France

Lucy Williams, Nikki Foster and Tara Watters won the Nations Cup for England on a countback from England after the first two rounds of the Grand Prix des Landes at Hossegor Golf Club in southwest France.
Lucy, pictured left by Cal Carson Golf Agency, was the leader after 36 holes of the four-round event with scores of 72 and 68 but she had to come home after that to play in the Ricoh Women's British Open Final Qualifying at Hillside Golf Club, Lancashire on Monday.
The Grand Prix des Landes tournament website lists Lucy as "disqualified." This creates totally the wrong impression. The English Women's Golf Association sent her to France only to play in the first two rounds for the Nations Cup competition run in conjunction with the opening 36 holes. The organisers were well aware of this and accepted that she would not be playing in the third and fourth rounds.
The new leader is French player Agathe Stuzon with scores of 71, 72 and 69 for 212 - two shots ahead of Sweden's Linnea Johansson (74-71-69) and Frida Gustafsson (69-73-72)
England's Nikki Foster and Tara Watters are sharing eighth place on 221. They've both scored 72, 75 and 74.

Morgan Pressell leads by two shots in Evian Masters

FROM THE LADIES' EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Morgan Pressel of the United States advanced to the top of the leader board on moving day at the Evian Masters presented by Société Générale with a five under par round of 67 in fine conditions.
After a busy third round which saw eight different players either lead outright or tie for the lead, Pressel finished at 11 under par, two strokes ahead of South Koreans Jeong Jang and Jiyai Shin.
The world No.4, Shin, had a 68 while Jang shot 70 to move to nine under par. Shin was the world number one for seven weeks after Lorena Ochoa retired earlier this season and could regain the top spot with a victory at Evian.
Pressel, who has two official victories on the LPGA Tour, including the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship, shared a three-way tie for the lead after her opening 66 but slipped back into a share of fourth after a round of 72 on a stormy second day.
She rebuilt her lead with four birdies, a bogey and a final-hole eagle at the Evian Masters Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France, on Saturday.
She said: “I got off to a good start: birdied the first hole; made a little bit of a mess on three, more of a mental error than anything. I just shouldn't have hit driver off the tee and made bogey. I mean, I had chances. I had chances on five, six, seven, I made birdie. Chances on eight and nine, ten was a short chance that I missed. On 11 I had a great up and down: that was probably the best hole of the day. That was only the second green that I missed and got up and down from a short to a back left tough pin. And then 12, I was I kicking myself because I missed another short birdie putt. And 13 and 14, managed to roll a couple in. I mean, I hit it good. I was close and had a lot of chances. 18 was a nice cap there.”
Pressel’s best finish from 12 starts on the LPGA this year was sixth, although she won the Salonpas Cup in Japan.
American Brittany Lincicome’s eventful round of 65 started with a bogey at the first hole after a spectator picked up her ball from the left hand rough, but she said, “I think we scared the lady more than anything.”
She had six birdies and an eagle at the par four 16th hole, where she hit a hybrid off the 16th tee into the left rough and then a gap wedge which landed short of the hole and hopped in.
At eight under in total, Lincicome tied for fourth with 15-year-old American Alexis Thompson, who is playing in her third event as a professional after tying for tenth at the US Women’s Open a fortnight ago.
Thompson, whose father Scott is her caddie, has the opportunity to become the youngest ever winner on the Ladies European Tour, a record currently held by South Korean Amy Yang who won the ANZ Ladies Masters in Australia aged 16 years and 191 days.
She will have work to do with Japan’s Mayu Hattori and Mika Miyazato, as well as Koreans Na Yeon Choi and MJ Hur all poised to strike a stroke behind in equal sixth position.
Germany’s Anja Monke and Norwegian Suzann Pettersen are a shot further back in a five-way share of tenth place after rounds of 70 and 71 respectively. They are paired together for the final round and will start at midday.
Frenchwoman Gwladys Nocera started the day in second place but slipped back into 21st place after a 76, while first round co-leader Melissa Reid shot 71 to tie for 27th.
The final round begins at 7.04am on Sunday, with the leading pair of Pressel and Shin out at 12.40pm.

Left-handed Katelyn in US girls' final at first attempt

FROM THE GOLFWEEK WEBSITE
By Julie Williams
PINEHURST, North Carolina – Katelyn Dambaugh may be a new arrival on the USGA scene, but she’s making her presence known at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. After cruising through the quarter-finals and semi-finals, Dambaugh will meet Doris Chen in the 36-hole final at the Country Club of North Carolina.
So who is this Carolina wunderkind? The petite, grey-green-eyed Dambaugh may not appear to be much of a threat – that is, until she displays her ability to make birdies and get on a run. It’s exactly what she did during her semi-final match Friday afternoon, taking it to Ally McDonald, 7 and 6.
In her first USGA competition appearance, Dambaugh has the opportunity to secure a place in history as the first left-handed player to win a female USGA championship. It’s a spot Dambaugh didn’t expect to find herself in entering the championship this week, but one she’s excited for nonetheless.
“I just wanted to make the cut – that was my goal,” Dambaugh states matter-of-factly. “Now I’m here.”
Dambaugh, from Goose Creek, South Carolina, will be a sophomore at Pinewood Prep this fall, and is poised to become a star on the newly-formed women’s golf team. She walks the course in pink golf shoes and a Duke visor – the headwear complete from signatures from Duke basketball stand-out Demarcus Nelson and LPGA player Brittany Lang. Dambaugh hopes to one day become a Blue Devil, and if she keeps up her current style of play, it doesn’t seem to be out of the question.
Little seems to faze this 15-year-old, who also plays shooting guard for the Pinewood Prep women’s basketball team. It’s possible that said team will show up for Saturday’s final round, which, as Dambaugh’s father Eric stated, might make for a pretty amped-up day.
Though Dambaugh might be lacking in USGA experience, she entered the Girls’ Junior off a run to the semi-finals at the South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship earlier this month. She has her good friend Derek Mills on the bag this week, and, maybe most importantly, a hot putter in her hand.
So far, Dambaugh’s game plan for this championship has worked pretty well, and she sees little reason to change it tomorrow.
“Just go out there like I did today. Just first shot, get it in the fairway and just go one shot at a time.”
RESULTS
Quarter-finals
D Chen bt D Kang 1 hole.
G Park bt M Tumangan 3 and 2.
A McDonald bt V Tanco 1 hole.
K Dambaugh bt S Liu 2 and 1.
Semi-finals
Chen bt Park 4 and 3.
Dambaught bt McDonald 7 and 6.
Liu, Thomas reach US boys' championship final

ADA, Michigan -- Jim Liu of Smithtown, New York will face Justin Thomas of Goshen, Kentucky on Saturday in the championship match of the U.S. Junior Amateur.
The 14-year-old Liu defeated fellow New Yorker Gavin Hall, from Pittsford, by one hole in the quarter-finals on Friday morning on the Classic Course at Egypt Valley Country Club. Liu then won his afternoon semi-final, 3 and 2, over 14-year-old Robbie Shelton of Wilmer, Alabama
The only lead Thomas had in his afternoon match was following the 19th hole, when he defeated Denny McCarthy of Burtonsville, Maryland. The 17-year-old Thomas beat Scott Wolfes of St. Simons Island, Georgia, 2 and 1 in the quarter-finals.
Thomas was the only semi-finalist to break par in the tournament's two qualifying rounds.
RESULTS:

J Thomas bt S Wolfes 2 and 1.
R Shelton bt A Paolucci 2 and 1.
