Keeping cool in the heat of the Craigielaw final: Where did you get that hat, Gillian?

They think it's all over ... and they're right! Some of the gallery pictured around the 15th green just after Louise Kenney had conceded the hole, the match and the Scottish title to Kelsey MacDonald at Craigielaw. Perhaps, if you were there, you can recognise yourself in this Cal Carson Golf Agency image. Click on it to enlarge, writes Colin Farquharson
The man in the short-sleeved white shirt is George McGill, captain of Craigielaw Golf Club, given the honour of refereeing the final.
Standing next to him with that classy hat on is the championship's chief referee, Gillian Kirkwood, now chairman of the Ladies Golf Union. She stays fairly close to the Craigielaw links, being a resident with husband David of Gullane.
So where did you get that hat, Gillian, which, I have to say, looked very comfortable and cool in the temperatures which must have touched the high 70s for the final?
"It's the official sun hat for the United Stages Golf Association Rules Committee," says Gillian.
"I'm going to join their Rules team for the US Women's Open at Oakmont, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the beginning of July and they've sent me some uniform to wear."

Some people have all the luck!

Sally Watson makes top 10 behind

Ganton-boun Caroline Hedwall

Stanford University, California freshman student Sally Watson, one of the two Scots in the GB&I team for next month's Curtis Cup match, finished a highly creditable joint ninth in the end of season American women's colleges' golf championship at the Country Club of Landfall, Wilmington in North Carolina.
Teenager Watson, from South Queensferry originally, had scores of 73, 71, 76 and 66 for a two-under-par total of 286 over the tough Pete Dye-designed course.
Sally finished ahead of the only other British player in the big field, Yorkshire's Jodi Ewart (New Mexico) who scored 73, 71, 72 and 73 for joint 15th place on 289.
Jodi, who played alongwith Sally Watson in the 2008 Curtis Cup match over the Old Course, St Andrews, declined selection for this year's match. She is turning professional very soon to compete on the US Futures Tour.
Winner of the prestigious NCAA Women's Championship by four strokes was Sweden's Caroline Hedwall (Oklahoma State) who will be one of the favourites for the British women's open amateur championship at Ganton, Yorkshire next month.Hedwall scored 70, 70, 68 and 68 for 12-under-par 276, winning from two members of the US Curtis Cup team, Jennifer Johnson (Arizona State) on 280 and Cydney Clanton (Auburn) on 281.
Caroline Hedwall, pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency, lost to another Swedish player, Anna Nordqvist, now a star on the LPGA Tour, in the final of the "British" at North Berwick two years ago. She has a twin sister Jacqueline.

HUNGARY TRIP FOR CARNOUSTIE KIDS

AILSA SUMMERS AND JESSICA MEEK

The Scottish Ladies Golfing Association has rewarded Ailsa Summers and Jessica Meek, the two 16-year-old Carnoustie Ladies junior clubmates, for an outstanding performance in battling their way past their elders to feature in the final of the Clark Rosebowl – the No 2 match-play competition at the Scottish championship at Craigielaw last week.

Ailsa, the Angus women’s and girls’ county champion, beat Jessica by 4 and 3 winner to win the Clark Rosebowl with some very good golf – one under par for the holes played with a bag of four birdies.
