Kimberly Kim decides she's going
to Denver University

FROM THE GOLFWEEK.COM WEBSITE
By BETH ANN BALDRY, Senior Staff Writer
Kimberly Kim has made up her mind. The 2006 US Women’s Amateur champion called Denver (University) coach Sammie Chergo on March 5 and gave a verbal commitment.
“I really liked the team a lot,” said Kim, pictured above. “I liked all the courses we saw on the visit, too.”
Kim, 17, previously had committed to Oklahoma State, but changed her mind when head coach Laura Matthews left the programme.
Kim was set to join Jane Rah and Sue Kim in Stillwater, Oklahoma, this fall. Now both Sue and Kimberly will join the Pioneers.
Kim’s college decision was a hot topic on the Golfweek discussion boards, with more than 15,000 page views and 150 postings. With so many rumours flying around, Kim even got on the boards herself to try and set the record straight.
“I felt like I got insulted a lot over not being able to decide (on college),” Kim said. “Isn’t it a tough decision? I’m glad it’s over and I can look forward to (high school) graduation.”

MULTI-YEAR CLUB CHAMPIONS

The correspondence continues:

"I was reading your article about multi-year champions. Until 2008, when I was defeated in the semi-final, I was Lady Champion at Gourock Golf Club for 15 years consecutively.
"This could be a starting figure for your investigations!!"
Regards
MAUREEN WOODHEAD (formerly Skinner)

Any advance on 15 years, then?

British Women's Open Champion

Jiyai Shin clickety-clicks over

weekend for Singapore win

British Women's Open champion Jiyai Shin from South Korea covered the last 36 holes of the $2million HSBC Women's Champions Tournament in Singapore in 12-under-par with a pair of 66s.
Not surprisingly, she won the title and the $300,000 first prize by two shots with an 11-under-par total of 277. Runner-up was the third-round leader, Australian Katherine Hull.
It was the 21-year-ols Shin's fourth LPGA victory in eight months.
Last year, before becoming an LPGA member, Shin, pictured, won the Women’s British Open and added victories in the Mizuno Classic in Japan and season-ending ADT Championship. She also won seven times on the Korea LPGA and took a Japanese LPGA event.
Now fifth-ranked in the world, Shin birdied the first four holes to get into contention, then took advantage of Hull’s back-nine collapse. Hull, the former Pepperdine star who won the Canadian Women’s Open last summer, finished with a 74.
Angela Park (68), Paula Creamer (70) and SBS Open winner Angela Stanford (73) tied for third at eight under.
Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa, the 2008 champion coming off her 25th LPGA Tour victory last week in Thailand, shot a 70 to tie for sixth with Jane Park (73) and Sun Young Yoo (73) at 7 under.
Hull had a four-stroke lead at 13 under par with nine holes left, but dropped four strokes on the next five holes to hand the lead to Shin.
The Australian’s bogey on the par-4 10th and Shin’s birdie on the par-3 11th cut Hull’s advantage to two strokes. Hull gave that away with a double bogey on the par-5 13th, then bogeyed the par-3 14th to fall a stroke behind.
Shin took a two-stroke lead with a birdie on the par-5 15th, and closed with three straight pars. She made 12 birdies in her bogey-free weekend 66s after opening with rounds of 72 and 73.

Disqualification blow for Katy
but Lynn Univ win team title

Despite the most unfortunate disqualification of Katy McNicoll's first-round score of 74, Lynn University’s women’s golf team earned its first victory of the season after claiming first place at the NIU Springlake Invitational at Sebring, Florida.
Katy's team-mate Megan Mangone earned medalist honours for the second time in her career while Maha Maddioui finished second.
Katy, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, from Carnoustie, had a 74 in the first round but her marker failed to put a score opposite one hole, although it would seem that she had put 74 in for a total.
Katy signed her card and handed it in to the Recorder without noticing the slip.
She had a 73 in the second round and her total of 147 would have been good enough to finish joint second - a reminder to Katy (and all players) that she should check EVERY scorecard carefully before signing it and handing it in.
Four of the Fighting Knights finished in the top-10 led by Mangone. The senior from Windham, N.H. is enjoying a career year in her final season with the Blue & White. Mangone has notched six consecutive top-10 finishes, including two tournament wins. She fired a second round 75 to pull out the one-stroke victory over Haddioui.
Lynn University (599) recorded its lowest 36-hole score of the season in recording a 297 team score. The Blue & White finished 18-strokes ahead of Florida Gulf Coast (617) while Methodist (641) took third.
The Knights return to action on Monday, March 9, at the Peggy Kirk Bell in Winter Park, Florida.
