WINTRY WEATHER KOs CONCLUSION
OF STUDENTS' GOLF AT BLAIRGOWRIE

A combination of snow and frost forced the cancellation of the second day's play in the Scottish Universities Order of Merit stroke-play golf tournament at Blairgowrie today.
First round leaders John Corke (St Andrews) with a six-under-par 66 over the Rosemount course in the men's event and Jane Turner (Robert Gordon University), who led with a 76 in the women's section, were declared the winners.
The next competition is over the Dundonald Links in March.
+We'll have all the scores on display when we get them from organiser Dr Rob Macpherson.

Daily Mail Women's Foursomes

Grand Final at Dalmahoy

Sally Hamilton (Loudoun Gowf) reports:
Due to the terrible weather over the weekend of the finals the format was changed on the first day to one Stableford round with the top four teams from 16 progressing to the semi-finals.
Loudoun Gowf (Sally Hamilton and Gale Macpherson) were lucky enough to be in the top four.
Again, due to the weather on day two, the format was changed from match-play to Stableford stroke-play and, unfortunately, we played the last four holes poorly.

Lewis Kirton improves to finish
jt 30th in North Carolina
Newmachar's Lewis Kirton (Louisville-Kentucky University) improved 15 places on his overnight position to finish joint 30th in a field of 75 players 40th in a field of 75 players for the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate men's tournament at Forest Oaks Country Club, Greensboro in North Carolina.
Kirton, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, from Oldmeldrum, had rounds of 77, 74 and 73 for a total of 224 over the long par-72 course of 7,197yd.
He had a triple bogey 6 at the short fourth in his first round in which he also notched three birdies. He managed only three more birdies over the combined second and third rounds but he kept destructive double bogeys off his cards.
On the same 151 mark as Kirton with one round to go, former England boys international Jack Hiluta (South Alabama) from Chelmsford went in the opposite direction from the Scot with a closing round of 80 after earlier rounds of 78 and 73. Hiluta finished on 231 in a tie for 54th place.
Two players finished at the head of the field on 213 - Payne Gniewek (Michigan State) with rounds of 69, 70 and 74, and Max Scodro (Notre Dame with 70, 72 and 71.

Holly Clyburn leads girls’

scoring against the boys

Junior international Holly Clyburn (pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency) led the England Under-18 girls’ scoring in their annual match against the England Under-16 boys at Woodhall Spa.
Holly, 17, was playing on her home course and was unbeaten, contributing 1½ points to the scoreline. But her efforts were unable to prevent a comprehensive boys’ victory of 10-5.
However, Linda Bayman, performance director of the English Women’s Golf Association, was undismayed. “This was a very useful training match for a new, young team and it has provided us with plenty of information,” she said.
The girls made a slow start in the morning foursomes when they struggled around the greens. They managed only a half-point from five matches, courtesy of Holly and fellow girl international Heidi Baek.
However, they provided the boys with a much stronger challenge in the afternoon with some good, attacking play.
Holly, who was playing top, secured her singles point when she defeated Matthew Chapman on the final green. English schools’ champion Jamie-Leigh Voss beat James Carney – despite his albatross 2 on the sixth hole.
Other points for the girls were scored by Rachael Goodall, the Northern girls’ champion, and Hayley Davis, the South-west ladies’ scratch champion. Helen Searle, who played impressively for Yorkshire during the County Finals, halved her game.
RESULTS
Foursomes (1/2-4 1/2)
