SARA BISHIP COMPLETES TITLE HAT-TRICK

Sara Bishop (Windyhill) completed a hat-trick of titles in the Dunbartonshire & Argyll women’s county golf championship on a very wet day at Cardross Golf Club today.
In a replay of the 2003 final Sara beat Gemma Webster (Hilton Park) by one hole after Gemma had come back from three down after 13 holes.
Sara and Gemma were the leading qualifiers for the match-play stages.
The last player to win the title three years in a row was Curtis Cup player Myra McKinlay in 1989-90-91.
The bronze division championship was won by the host club’s lady captain Patricia Johnson who beat clubmate Margaret Mason by one hole in the final.

£30,000 LEGACY TO FUND GOLF BURSARIES
The ELGA Trust, the charity for girls’ golf, is to make two bursary awards to students, thanks to a £30,000 legacy.
The money is from the estate of Mrs Lena Bellamy, whose father, Arnaud Massey, was the first overseas player to win The Open championship.The Frenchman, described as cheerful, swashbuckling and engaging, won the title at Hoylake in 1907, beating JH Taylor by two shots.
Mrs Bellamy was a keen golfer and, although she did not leave a valid Will, the Court of Protection has agreed that her estate should be divided between various charities reflecting her interests.
Her legacy to the ELGA Trust will fund two Bellamy Bursary awards, each of £1500 per academic year.
They will be made to English female golfers, irrespective of age or ethnicity, studying a golf-related subject at a college of higher or further education. Courses could include golf course management, turf management, greenkeeping, horticulture or sports management, among other subjects.

MARIA DUNNE WINS AGAIN WITH
BECKY SECOND AND FIONA THIRD


Ireland international player Maria Dunne from County Dublin has scored another victory on the US women's college circuit.
A golf scholarship student at Bethune-Cookman College, Maria had rounds of 75 and 79 for a winning aggregate of 154 in the Women's Collegiate Championship over the Sugar Creek course at Atlanta, Georgia.
Bethune-Cookman College has a women's golf squad packed with Europeans and Maria's closest rival in this tournament was team-mate Becky Dowell from Thornecombe, England. BGecky had scores of 78 and 77 to be runner-up, a shot behind on 156.
A third Bethune-Cookman College team player, Fiona Brunton from Cornwall, tied for fourth place on 157 with rounds of 76 and 81.
Needless to say, Bethune-Cookman College won the team event by a wide margin. With a total of 630 they finished 12 shots ahead of Jackson State with Southern University (652) third.
